Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a gentle manual therapy with a holistic approach. It applies to both acute and chronic pain or functional disorders of undetermined origin, and has a beneficial and preventive effect on health. Osteopathy follows a person-centered approach. This means that when treating their patients, osteopaths as primary care therapists consider patients as a whole, taking into account personal, professional and social living conditions.

Indicated for babies, children, adults, seniors and athletes

Osteopathic treatments are suitable for people of all ages – babies, children and adults – and all physical conditions. Osteopaths stimulate the self-healing of the human body, restoring tissue and joint mobility and enabling patients to adopt behavior that is conducive to their health. They communicate and interact in an open and transparent manner, explain the steps of the treatment, present alternatives to the patient and refer them, if necessary, to other health professionals (interprofessional collaboration).

In adults: back pain, neck pain, lumbago, sciatica, headaches, functional digestive disorders, tendonitis, peripheral joint pain (knees, ankles, shoulders, elbows, wrists), jaw problems, etc.

In pregnant women: pregnancy monitoring, lumbago, neck pain, sciatica, preparation for childbirth.

Newborns: babies with sleep or breastfeeding problems, cranial asymmetry (plagiocephaly) and pain during teething, functional digestive disorders, reflux, congenital torticollis.

Through its systematic approach and understanding of the interactions between organs, joints, bones, muscles and ligaments, osteopathy is particularly indicated for functional disorders.

The osteopath’s therapeutic arsenal includes a range of different techniques adapted to each particular case:

  • high-velocity, low-amplitude joint and vertebral manipulations… the ones that cracks!
  • Gentle functional manipulations (without cracking!), joint mobilisation
  • Various muscular and ligament techniques: muscle energy techniques (MET), neuro-muscular  techniques (NMT), stretching, muscle inhibition techniques, soft-tissue release (STR)
  • Visceral manipulation techniques
  • Cranial manipulation techniques
